What's not to love about freshly baked bread? It's crackly on the outside, pillowy on the inside. We experienced the world of sourdough right in Firebake - a cosy little corner shop on East Coast Road.
Although their organic sourdough loaves (S$8~$13) are their signature, they also serve up some delectable savoury dishes, such as Smoked Eggplant with Spiced Hummus, Tomato, and Manchego (S$15), and Cured Norwegian Salmon, Bread Crust, Dill, Leek, Pickled Onion (S$25).
We especially loved the Australian Prawn Capellini Aglio Olio with Sakura Ebi (S$19) which came in a huge portion, perfect for sharing between two people. The prawns were sweet and tender, and the tiny Sakura Ebi woven throughout the dish provided some additional crunch to the thin, well-seasoned pasta.
We ended off our meal with the Vanilla Sourdough Ice Cream with Peach and Rye Chip (S$12). It tasted almost like a yogurt, with a slight tang to the sweetness. If you're not into ice cream that tastes overly sweet, this will be right up your alley.
